Setting Fitness Goals During the Pandemic

We all had our goals at the start of this year. 2020 has been a wild ride.

Through all that has happened, our health goals may have gotten lost in all the confusion. Most of us have already  began creating a mental note of what we plan to achieve next year.

However, there is still plenty of time left to start working towards those fitness goals now. But how can you do this while staying safe? Yes, the gym's may be opening up but many of us don't feel ready to be in that environment quite yet. How do we know if it's safe.

To be honest, we may never know. What we do know is that working out at home has many benefits that we can take advantage of. But first, we have to know what it is we want for ourselves.

Dr. Gail Matthews, a psychology professor at Dominican University in California, did a study on goal-setting with 267 participants. She found that you are 42 percent more likely to achieve your goals just by writing them down.

There are many reasons why actually penning down your fitness goals help you in accomplishing them.

Let us take a look at some:

Writing Down Your Goals Help To Eliminate Distractions

If life is a series of spiraling road networks, then a written goal is like a road sign that keeps you on track.

In life it is so easy to get lost and forget the things you want to achieve due to so many distractions. One minute you could be reading a motivational E book online, and next minute you could find yourself watching a cat dancing on Youtube.

How do you avoid these everyday distractions? By having a clearly defined goal.

You have clear targets when you have a set of written goals.

Writing down your goals will help you to stay much more focused in achieving them.

Working out at home, like writing down your goals, is a great way to stay focused. There's no need to be constantly wiping down equipment or social distancing. In the comfort of your own home, it's easy to gather only the equipment necessary for that day's routine.

Whether the goal is to tone, strengthen, or get in some full body cardio, you can have all the home exercise equipment necessary to get the job done.

Goals Help To Make The Path Easier.

As you write down your goals you begin to visualize how to achieve them. You begin to make out plans and sketches that will guide you in achieving them.

Penning down your goals however can help break down these seemingly impossible dreams into smaller, more achievable stepping stones.

Planning towards accomplishing these smaller goals helps to formulate a definite plan of action that you can start working on right away.

Instead of trying to lose 10lbs in a week, why don't we start with 1lb. Get your Kettlebell and start with some squats. Grab your sit-up foot bar and do some sit-ups. Start with small and simple exercises. They will eventually get you to your ultimate goal as you begin to scale up.

Bring Them To Life

Consider two scenarios: Having a mental note of shedding a few pounds by next summer or taking a paper and a pen to write down how to go about losing a few pounds before next summer.

Which one feels more realistic? The latter of course.

Writing down your goals along with the plans to achieving them make them more tangible.

As you write them you, you actually take a step closer to achieving them.

Before you bring them to life with your pen, they are just baseless thoughts that lack conviction. They are mere wishes; things you would like to do if you have the chance.

But the moment you pen them down, they become an obligation, a commitment, and an item you must fulfill.

If you have never written down your goals before, you should start doing that now! Try it.

We assure you that you would be awed by the miracles you can accomplish with just a paper and a pen.
